Residents and organic waste producers invited to UWM Zero Waste Living Masterclass

The City of Cape Town would like to invite residents and organic waste generators, such as restaurant managers, to the latest iteration of our Zero Waste Living Masterclass, where they can learn more about how to reduce their impact on the planet.

The event will also involve a Waste-savvy Market where SMMEs will exhibit a variety of products made using recycled material.

This year there will be a special focus on the impact of organic waste at landfill. When organic waste breaks down in a compacted landfill mass, where there is no oxygen, it produces a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to human-induced climate change.

Attendees of the masterclass will leave with a clear understanding of the solutions available for organic waste for both businesses and households.

‘We hope that attendees will be inspired after seeing the value waste can hold, or after they see some of the easy ways they can make a huge difference to the planet’s health. I am sure those who take part in the day will leave motivated to dispose of their waste carefully, and to consider products that are made using recycled materials. Anyone who wants to be part of the waste-wise revolution should try and visit,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.

The event will be held at the Banqueting Hall at the Cape Town Civic Centre, on Thursday, 27 June 2024. Please be advised that space is limited and attendees will be allowed into the venue on a first-come first-served basis.
